Continuation of the Marvelous Misadventures of Nerim and Jisr

=i nod, noting the excitement=

=i heard someone shouting and turned to see people all gathering up to begin the journey. A few carts and wagon were being loaded up. Weapons and supplies were being stacked and tied down as horses were being hitched=
Looks like we're going now.

"Right you are. We should probably head over there now unless we want to walk all the way there."
With that we walked over to the gathering of soldiers.

=i decided to try and help load up some stuff, but the soldier from before got in my way=
"Thanks, but we got it. You can go relax on the cart."

No, no, I want to help.

"I said, we got it. Thanks for the offer."

=i glared at him=
Okay. If you don't want help, that's fine.

=i walked back over to Jisr=

Either he's trying to make us look lazy or he's got it.
"Hm. Sounds like someone can hold a grudge."
I spoke in a whisper and then pulled myself up into the cart he mentioned. I offered a hand to Nerim. No reason to be rude.

=i grab Jisr's hand and pull myself up onto the cart=

=i cut that off quickly. Just because I hadn't been a Night Young in a long time doesn't mean it's curses and insults didn't carry over=

Weak skull... Another term I haven't heard. I hope I'll become more familiar with things such as this.
We waited after that, unsure of when we'll get moving.

=i whispered to Jisr=
It's like what a human calls a dumbass. It's an insult.

=we waited a few more minutes and then the carts started moving. Almost all the soldiers were on carts, but some of them were on horseback, probably our escorts. We started trotting along, headed out of the town. A good number of soldiers were left behind, to guard the town we were leaving, but nowhere near as many were there before we left=

"Here's hoping this town isn't attacked either."
Some people waved to us as we left the town. I waved back. So maybe three minutes later we're far from the town.
To the point where we can barely see it. Vegetation surronds the dirt road, the only thing between civilization and wilderness.
After some time the town isn't visible anymore.

=i chuckle=
Knowing our luck. It'll be attacked right as we go to sleep.

"And this'll all be for nothing. Then we'll go back."

For nothing? We would be protecting our people.

"I meant is that we would have left it only to come back to it. Doing nothing but endangering our people by attempting to protect others, that probably won't get attacked. "

Yeah, I know.

Oh you meant the one we just left. I thought you meant the one we are going to.

"Oh. Sorry."
I scratch the back of my head and rest my it in my hands. Then lay back.

Don't worry about it.

Rest if you want, I'll kick you if anything interesting happens=

"Even more reason not to sleep."
I laugh.

Well, you know. I just like kicking you sometimes.

I look down and shake my head, still laughing.

No, really. Go to sleep if you want. I'll wake ya up.

Nah. I don't want to look like I just woke up when we arrive. It'd look unprofessional.

Good reason not to sleep. If nothing else it'd keep the weak skull idiot from having an excuse to yell at us.

=someone on the cart looked at me=

"I usually only hear Night Young say that, like when they're running away or something. What's it mean?"

It's like the human "Dumbass." Really just an insult.

"How do you know this?"

I spent some time with them. Made some friends.

"You made friends with the Night Young?"

No no no no, no. Nerim shouldn't say anything about that. Bad things could happen.
I nudge him and give him a concerned look.

=i look at Jisr and stop for a moment before turning back to the soldier=
Well, I...more like just listen to them a lot. Closest to friendship, I guess.

=he looked at me unbelieving but went back to talking with his buddies. I turn to Jisr and whispered=
What?

I whisper back, low and breathy, inaudible to all except adjacent ears.
"If they found out 'bout you then you might be court marshalled. If not that then looked down on by the other soldiers.
Maybe even given a odd nickname."

=i reply with the same tone of voice=
I don't care about what they think of me. But why do you think I would be court marshaled? I didn't do anything.
